Rabbi Stuart Pollack
Rabbi Stuart Pollack, Har Sinai Temple’s religious leader since 1999, is the 26th rabbi in the congregation’s long history. Prior to coming to Har Sinai, Rabbi Pollack was the religious leader of Temple Tifereth Israel in Malden, MA for 17 years. He has been married for 40 years to Robin Beth, a learning consultant for the Hamilton School District. Their elder son, Max, is a senior software developer; his younger son, Eli, works at the American Hebrew Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Rabbi Pollack spent ten years of his childhood growing up in Lansdale, PA, where his father was a rabbi at Temple Shalom, before relocating to Paterson, NJ. As a young man, he resisted following in his father’s rabbinical footsteps. It wasn’t until Rabbi Pollack had almost completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology and philosophy that he chose to enter the rabbinate.
Rabbi Pollack believes the primary ingredients necessary for the rabbinate are humility and a sense of humor. Although much of his job revolves around times of crisis, he also believes in emphasizing every simcha, the good times. Rabbi Pollack’s hobbies include screenwriting, alternative rock and metal music, and pop culture. He finds innovative and creative ways to connect these passions to his students’ study of Judaism and Jewish culture.
Rabbi Pollack was ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City, received his Master of Science in Education and Counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and studied for his Doctorate of Ministry degree at Boston University, where he was a student of Elie Wiesel. He graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Pennsylvania State University (BA), where he was president of the Hillel. Rabbi Pollack participated in the Minister in Vicinity Program at Harvard University and he also served as an adjunct professor of Jewish Studies at Tufts University. Rabbi Pollack attended the Jewish Community High School of Gratz College.
Our Director of Music
Susan Sacks has acted as Har Sinai’s Religious School Director of Music for over 20 years. It is a pleasure for her to work with Har Sinai’s wonderful teaching staff and students. Susan keeps current with The Reform Movement’s music by her yearly attendance at Hava Nashira, a five-day Jewish song-leading workshop in Wisconsin. She has also attended several CAJE conferences.
During the High Holy Days, Susan co-leads the Junior Congregation services. Throughout the year, she helps lead class Shabbat services and other services from time to time. Susan has taught music and toddler classes at various synagogues and preschools.
Before moving to our area, Susan taught both middle school and high school Spanish as well as English as a Second Language. Susan has a bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College and her master’s degree from CW Post Center (Long Island University). She lives with her husband, Fred, and has two sons, Evan and Jeff.
Our Temple Administrator
Robyn Shortall has worked as our Office Administrator since 2011. In July, 2018, Robyn became our Temple Administrator following the retirement of Laura Reiser who held that position for 32 years. Robyn has the unique opportunity to interact with everyone from our Religious School students and parents, to the most esteemed elder members of our Congregation. She loves the rich history here at Har Sinai, both of our Temple and our amazing members.
Robyn has a background in management, overseeing both chain stores and local businesses. She spent a few years as an assistant chef at Cafe Con Leche in PA. The experience rounded out her cooking skills and inspires her fresh cooking at home.
She and her husband enjoy biking in Bucks County, rehabbing a home in Florida and spending time with family, friends and their English Bulldog, Louie.
Our Building & Grounds Supervisor
Mike Rein has been with Har Sinai for over 30 years and is responsible for everything related to maintaining our beautiful facilities and grounds. Even though he works in the background, he is indispensable for the smooth running of the Temple.
