Our Rabbi

Stuart Pollack

Rabbi Stuart Pollack is Har Sinai’s religious leader, the 26th rabbi in our congregation’s long history. Prior to accepting the position at Har Sinai in 1999, Rabbi was the religious leader of Temple Tifereth Israel in Malden, MA, for 17 years.

Rabbi spent 10 years of his childhood growing up in Lansdale, PA, where his father was a rabbi at Temple Shalom, before relocating to Paterson, NJ. As a young man, he resisted following in his father’s rabbinical footsteps. It wasn’t until Rabbi Pollack had almost completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology and philosophy from Pennsylvania State University that he chose to enter the rabbinate. During his time at P.S.U., he was president of the Hillel and graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

Rabbi attended Jewish Community High School of Gratz College and was ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City. He received his Master of Science in Education and Counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and participated in a Minister in Vicinity Program at Harvard University. Rabbi studied for his Doctorate of Ministry degree at Boston University, where he was a student of Elie Wiesel and was an adjunct professor of Jewish Studies at Tufts University.

Rabbi Pollack has published over forty articles in various publications including Midstream Magazine, Reform Judaism and The Boston Jewish Exponent. His hobbies include screenwriting, alternative Rock and Metal Music, and pop culture. He has been married for forty years to Robin Beth who is a learning consultant for the Hamilton School District. His eldest son Max is a senior software developer, his youngest son Eli attends University of Pittsburgh.

Rabbi Pollack believes the primary ingredients necessary for the rabbinate are humility and a sense of humor. Although much of his job revolves around times of crisis, he also believes in emphasizing every Simha, the good times.

Our Cantor
Orna Green

Cantor Orna Green is the newest member of our clergy. While Orna may be new, she has already found a home within our community. In addition to leading our congregation in the chanting and singing of prayers during our services, she works with our b’nei mitzvah students to master trope and their Hebrew and in learning their Torah and Haftorah portions. She also works with our adult volunteer choir for special services and celebrations and has a very impactful role in our Temple.

A native Israeli, Cantor Green has a Master's Degree in Sacred Music from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music. During her time at the school, she was the recipient of awards for Excellence in Cantorial Studies, Nusach, and Cantillation as well as the Benjamin & Molly Borowitz Memorial Prize in Jewish Religious Thought. Cantor Green also holds a degree in Biology and Animal Behavior from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Cantor Green has served as cantor at several congregations in New York and New Jersey, where she has taught Music, Judaica, and Hebrew to hundreds of children.  She has also taught Modern and Biblical Hebrew to adults at the Hebrew Union College, the New York Kollel, and the Ulpan sponsored by UJA-Federation of Northern New Jersey.

Additionally,  Cantor Green has served on the faculty of the Nitzanim Israeli Hebrew School, Bergen Academy for Reform Judaism, the Teacher Development Center of the UJA-Federation and is currently on the faculty of the Bergen County High School for Jewish Studies.  She also officiated as the Cantor of Cedar Lake Camp, an NJY camp for children ages 12-14 for 5 summers.

As a product of the Israeli Movement for Progressive Judaism, Cantor Green combines her knowledge of Hebrew, her familiarity with Reform Judaism, her love of Israel and Judaism and her music expertise into an experience which makes worship and study come alive.

Cantor Green currently lives in New Jersey with her husband Warren and their twin daughters, Noam and Liel.
